The Golden Child has a golden heart

Number Two (aka: The Golden Child) is growing up.  He’s not always perfect anymore.  Sometimes he lies.  Last week he was grounded for being a sneak. Much like his mother, he is an enigma wrapped in a riddle.   He has a million friends and is socially gifted.  He volunteers to be the “helper” to his special needs classmates.  He loves sports and is super coordinated.  He’ll leave a neighborhood football game to entertain his 3 year old cousin.

He hates bugs.  Won’t touch them.  Nor lizards, frogs, or snakes.    He’s constantly dirty, but he doesn’t like mud.   He won’t swim in a lake if he can’t see the bottom.  He loves to fish.  He has the most patience for fishing of all of my boys.  He won’t bait his own hook OR hold his catch.

He loves action movies but doesn’t like violence.

This weekend, we watched James Bond’s SKYFALL.   At a point in the movie, there is a big gun fight/ explosion in an old Scottish castle.  My husband and other two boys were enthralled.  The louder the blast, the more attentive they became.

Number Two had wide eyes and said

“Mom!  Oh my God.. I cannot believe they are destroying that BEAUTIFUL house!!!!!”

Last night, the rest of the family went to be early and he stayed up with me for a while. We started watching Casino Royale.  One minute into it, he said

“I don’t want to watch this.  Can we watch something without violence?”

So I switched to Once Upon a Time.  Two minutes into that, he bolts up off the couch, throws his hands in the air and says

“OH MY GOD!!  I just want to watch something without killing and that has a happy ending!!!   Is that too much to ask????”

Me:  giggling..  ” like what??”

Uh, I dunno.. .. Like  Happy Feet Two????

He’s 9.  He may be growing up, but he’s still my baby ;)

Awwwwwwwwwwwww. I love these moments. I always tell people that God gave me a boy so that I would learn that boys aren’t inferior to girls. <3

That’s awesome. I wish one of my boys was like that! It’s all guns and killing and dead zombie fights around here these days. Sigh.

  7. Kimberly says:

Goes to show you how horrible our entertainment is. I’m glad that he can see that. What a sweetie.

Ladies, the only home video game that was around when my oldest child was small was Pong. If I remember correctly it was Atari? It was a big deal to have 13 television channels, and a black and white TV in a child’s room was a miracle!
