20th Annual Celebrity Mascot Games

I took the boys to the Mascot Games today at the Orlando Amway Center.  It is their favorite {sporting?} event of the year.  For those of you not in Central Florida…   what are the Mascot Games?

This is the ONLY event of its kind in the world. The Celebrity Mascot Games features over 30 mascots from the MLB, NBA, NHL, and NFL, along with the NCAA. .

Proceeds from the Celebrity Mascot Games benefit New Hope for Kids, an Orlando based not-for-profit organization that grants wishes to children under the age of 18 who are suffering from life-threatening illnesses. Since its inception, New Hope has granted more than 3,000 wishes, focusing on the children of Central Florida. In addition, since the first Mascot Games in 1992, this event has raised nearly $300,000.

So, clearly.. a good time for a good cause.   In addition to all of that gooey goodness.. it’s just a GREAT time!   Ya’ll know I don’t love crowds.. nor do I do exceptionally well with super loud noise.  The Mascot Games is very crowded and VERY loud.   And I go back every year.  Why?  Because once you watch your kids watch the games.. you cannot help but enjoy it.  And while watching your own kids is awesome.. watching/ hearing the thousands of other children exploding with excitement is contagious.   It really is.

Oh, and mascots are awesome.  They are silly and funny and big and furry.  They jump and fall down and do flips.  They go out of their way to high five every kid they can reach.

If you are in the Orlando area, there is another game tomorrow (Saturday, 7/21/12) at 2pm.   If you can’t make it…  put it on your “things to do” list with the kiddos..    Seriously..   soooo fun!
