Mommy Blogger TV?

Okay, so this sorta shit makes me laugh. I get lots of request for advertising, promotions, giveaways, etc.    I do very few.   I mean, I do some of course….. I’m not turning down money if it fits with HMM but I accept less than 10% of the inquiries that come into HMM. A few months ago I was contacted about doing a Reality TV show.   I hastily declined.  Besides the fact that I hate reality televsion, I don’t use my family’s names or faces on the blog.. why in the world would I put them on televsion? I got an email yesterday…. It was a long letter from the CEO of this television station wanting to do a show on Mommy Bloggers.   The letter was uber flattering..   expressed exactly what about HMM made him … Read entire article »

Seven should know better than to annoy me.

  Soo.. Seven has been kind of assholish for the past few days.    And he sort of has a reason to be aggravated with me, but I totally acknowledged that he was right—the FIRST time he brought it up.    So, by the third time he mentioned it, I’m ready to cut a motherfucker. {Note:  Muffy, The 2-carat princess and The Ice-Queen recounting our very messy and very expensive weekend to him didn’t help.} Anyhoo…  he’s being an ass and he’s on my nerves. As you know.. we got a call yesterday (immediately after I wrote THIS POST) that the kids’ school was on lock-down due to a suspected gunman.   Obviously, my stomach dropped to my knees, I was shaky and full of fear…    I ran outside with my keys in hand to tell Seven what was … Read entire article »

Waiting for a shoe to drop– the blessing of Catholicism

  We have had a stellar week here at Chez HMM.   Really.  Lots of great news.   Great academic news,  great professional news for Seven, and some really great things happening with Hot Mess Mom and the Million MILF March. God has answered our prayers.    We have received everything we have asked for.    And most importantly, we are healthy and we like each other. Sooo…..  why do I have a perpetual stomach-ache? Because I am Catholic.  Well, I’m Episcopal now but I was raised Catholic.   And Catholic guilt is something you can not leave behind.     I remember an old joke … a Baptist, a Jew and a Catholic are in a room…. the light goes out….  the Baptist and Jew go in search of another light-bulb.  The Catholic says “Oh God, what did I do to deserve this?” I have … Read entire article »

American Bridal- partnered post

One of the things I hated the most about my forays into ‘brides-maid-dom” was finding the perfect gift for the bride.   And then, when I was a bride… finding a gift my bridesmaids almost sent me right over the edge. What to give the  girls who had been at my side, not only through my engagement, but also for the years leading up to it…they deserved something wonderful, but affordable. I stumbled upon American Bridal’s website the other day, and fell in love with all of the different products they offered for creative bridesmaid gifts. Many of them can be monogrammed too… and you know I love a mongram almost as much as I love a flask.   These are some of my favorites from the site.  Go check it out…   lots of options!   … Read entire article »

Tuesdays with Gooley- Episode 14

Farm Report with a Dash of Fabio and Something Pink   Life on the ranch has been very slow over the last couple of months. After an enormous amount of work renovating the existing house and significantly cleaning up the land, we had to take a break. We’ve also been in a holding pattern with the county trying to get the permits for a barn. It’s stressful and unresolved so we have settled into limbo and do our best to persevere. Unfortunately we had to free Diesel Jesus into the wild for the summer. We could not keep him busy and he had work elsewhere so we nudged him out of the nest like a fledgling. I truly don’t know how he can function outside of our den of iniquity and testosterone…that’s … Read entire article »

This is how WE save money on travel … don’t judge me

  If you have been reading the blog for awhile, you know that I am a travel WHORE.  I will go anywhere with anyone.  I love love love to travel.  My kids have inherited this same gene.  Sometimes we take big trips, but mostly we travel on a very tight budget. Seven’s job takes him all over the world.  When he is anywhere within driving distance of us, we try to meet him for the weekends.  It is usually at a resort.   Generally very nice resorts.  And that is awesome.  And we are so blessed to be able to do it.  However…. it is expensive!!  Feeding a family of 5 for a few days at a resort can cost as much as coast to coast airfare.  And that doesn’t even touch on the alcohol.   At $15 … Read entire article »

the end of elementary school {sniff}

Tomorrow my eldest son graduates from elementary school.   5th grade.  11 years old. How did this happen? I’m not one to relive the good ol’ days..  I love my boys at every age even more than the age before.  It’s true. When they were born, newborn was my favorite age..  Nothing like a newborn.    Until they are 3 months…then there is REALLY nothing as cute as a 3 month old.   But at 6 months they start crawling and at 9 months try to be a little independent.  And those were my favorite. But when they turned one and started walking and falling … that was my favorite.   Then they turned two and started talking and making up words.  That was my favorite. When they were three they started playing soccer.  Little tiny boys in shin … Read entire article »

Bandaging your own ass. it ain’t easy.

If you don’t know me, I’m getting injured all of the time.  I’m always covered in bruises, falling down, breaking bones, etc.   Yesterday I wrote about my day. My old roommate commented and reminded me of the time I got glass in my ass. I had blocked it out.  But now I’m laughing… so I’ll try to share. In 1996, I moved from Orlando, Florida to Tacoma Washington.  Alone.  “Because I want to live out west”.   Seven and I were dating, but he didn’t move with me.  I had the GREATEST apartment EVER.   It was an old hotel turned apartment building.  The elevator had a metal gate you had to close and the lobby looked like it was still 1920.. red velvet chairs and settees.. I was 24 years old and living totally alone–sans roommates– for the first time ever.  It was amazing.  And scary.  … Read entire article »

Want to hear about my day?

  In case I haven’t mentioned it, I suffer from terrible insomnia.  Like.. I never sleep.  Except for in the daytime when I nap and drool all over my pillow.  But in the nighttime, I do not sleep.  I go to bed early, and then I just lay there.  For hours.  Last night I was exhausted.  IN the bed at 10:15pm.  Watched the clock turn to 11:00, 12:30, 1:30.  At 2 am I got up, walked aimlessly around the house and drank some vodka water. (really, it was water.. I promise).  Went back to bed.  Fell asleep around 3:45 I think.  At 6:15, Number One came in crying {which he never does} because his head and throat and stomach and neck were killing him. Sooo,  I woke up my girlfriend the 2-carat Princess.. … Read entire article »

Tuesdays with Gooley- Episode 13

Rabbit Hole Revisited; Sasquatch Goes to Spirituality School.   It’s time, once again, to revisit the rabbit hole. Two weeks of submersion in youthful debauchery were fun, but I have had some weighty subjects on my mind and need to process. Yes, PROCESS…It seems as though this mommy blogging adventure is doubling as a form of ersatz therapy (did it again – used ERSATZ in a mommy blog). So, I’m just going to jump in with what has been swirling in betwixt my synapses and trust that I will find some answers so that my brain can rest. I will also ask for some assistance. Yes, a bit of feedback might help me pin down some of this angst and give it form and meaning. Mommies, let’s do this!! Another significant chapter in … Read entire article »
